Kulturmiljöbild, our photographic database online, contains more than 100 000 digitized and searchable photographs illustrating the diverse work and activities undertaken within the field of cultural heritage and historic environment conservation in Sweden - a real gold mine for those of you who love pictures.
The photographs have been taken over a period stretching from the later part of the 19th century up to the present day. The themes represented are - among others - ancient monuments and churches, urban and rural environment, landscapes, industries, archaeology and aerial photographs. The main part of the photographs are taken in Sweden, but there are also photographs from other countries.
The database includes the Board's own photographic work for more than a century, as well as digitized photographs from the Board's public archives collections. Digitization helps to improve the photographs' accessibility and at the same time preserves the quality of the originals. The database is continually updated and new photographs added.
The photographs on display are free to download without charge. You can also purchase high-resolution photographs as digital files or prints. We will then charge a fee for the work required. When using the photographs we are grateful if you state the photographer's name, if known, and make a reference to Swedish National Heritage Board as the source.
